About Us

Bandhan

Welcome to Bandhan, a community that bridges cultures, celebrates diversity, and fosters unity. We are an ethnic group primarily consisting of Bengali diaspora in Athlone, Ireland, dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Bengal while building meaningful connections with the wider Irish community.

The word Bandhan means "bond" or "connection"—a fitting name for a community that is committed to bringing people together. Through our festivals, cultural events, and outreach activities, we celebrate the beauty of our traditions while inviting everyone, regardless of background or faith, to join us in our shared journey.

Our flagship event is Durga Puja, an iconic festival that honors the triumph of good over evil. Alongside this, we also celebrate other key Bengali festivals such as Rabindra Jayanti, paying tribute to the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore. Bandhan also enjoys engaging in a variety of games and social activities that strengthen our community spirit and keep us connected.

Beyond celebrations, Bandhan believes in giving back. Whenever opportunities arise, we participate in social work, contributing to the well-being of the wider community and extending a helping hand where it is needed most.

At Bandhan, we believe in the power of togetherness. Our events not only celebrate our heritage but also create spaces for dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect. Through art, music, food, and rituals, we hope to weave a fabric of unity that honors both our roots and our new home in Ireland.

Join us as we continue to strengthen the bonds between cultures, foster harmony, and create lasting memories together.
